Electrical Testing Technician - Charlotte Area

Blackmon Service, Inc. (BSI), a Charlotte, NC based company has an immediate opening for a Field Test Technician.  BSI provides electrical and mechanical construction and service for mission critical facilities including but not limited to data centers, co-location facilities, server rooms and enterprise centers.  We are seeking an experienced technician looking for a growth opportunity in a great work team servicing an established customer base.

Job Title:  Electrical Field Test Technician (Full Time)

Job Description:  The primary duties of this position are to perform electrical acceptance and maintenance testing, arc-flash data gathering, and commissioning support.

This position must be able to work independently to perform these duties.  To be successful in this position you must become familiar with and be able to apply the following services to include but not limited to the below.  Formal and informal training will be provided as needed.

  • Electrical Acceptance and Maintenance Testing per NETA Standards

  • Testing of instrument transformers, switchboards, transformers, motors, circuit breakers, and electrical generation and distribution equipment

  • Work with SKM software for power studies – short circuit, OCPD coordination, and arc-flash analysis

  • Metering for load analysis and power quality

  • Support for commissioning efforts, including load banks, power quality meters, and infrared thermography

  • Testing and commissioning of DC systems

  • Ground testing

  • Evaluation of test results and customer recommendations

  • Detailed report writing

The successful candidate for this position should be a self-starter, ability to work well independently and in a team, must have customer service skills and represent BSI in a professional manner, and be able to adequately communicate in written formats and verbally.  Some overtime may be required based on the needs of our customer base and emergency response.

Desired Technical Qualifications: 

  • Understanding of electrical safety, including NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace.  Ability to understand complex switching operations, select, verify, and use metering equipment, LOTO, safety boundaries, and PPE selection. Ability to put safety as the highest priority.

  • NETA or NICET Level II or greater and 3+ years of experience in electrical acceptance and maintenance testing

  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, one-lines, and wiring diagrams to understand and troubleshoot electrical systems

  • Physical requirements required to perform all aspects of electrical testing, including (but not limited to) kneeling, crouching, climbing, balancing, lifting 50+ pounds, fine and gross motor skills, hearing, smelling, and vision to read fine print.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be able to legally work within the United States & provide required documentation upon hire

  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and follow company policies related to operating a company vehicle (supplied), including the Company’s Drug Free Workplace Policy

  • Maintaining high levels of organizational, attention to detail, time/task management and interpersonal skills with the ability to positively interact with various levels both within and outside the organization

  • High School Diploma required; Technical Certifications, Military Training or College Degree in related field or equivilant in industry experience is preferred
